Folding Diagrams for the
Petal Fold (Last 8 Steps)

Petal fold summary: from start to 95% done

The petal fold is a low intermediate fold that takes 1-2 minutes to make.
This base is used in the crane, iris, frog, and many other models.

These instructions assume that the model is completely pre-creased,
as shown in the frog base diagrams.

An Outline of the Diagrams:

The Diagrams:

Diagrams for steps 1-4.
  1. Hold down the upper triangle, and lift up the lower tip.
The valley fold halfway up the model will flex...
  2. ...push up underneath the central triangle...
  3. ...the tip will lift further; the side triangles will lag...
  4. ...the 'roots' of the flap are now exposed.
Continue to push the tip forward, while holding down the upper triangle
and the two 45-45-90 degree triangles at the root of the flap...
Diagrams for steps 5-8.
  1. ...the 'roots' of the flap are now exposed.
Continue to push the tip forward, while holding down the upper triangle
and the two 45-45-90 degree triangles at the root of the flap...
  2. ...as the flap approaches the top of the model,
the side triangles will approach the centerline.
    Release the roots...
  3. Press the model flat.
  4. The finished petal fold.
